Hi! MJ here. Great question! I address this in my classes when I teach Bite Size Gems. Prints, by their nature, call attention to themselves. They say, "Aren't I pretty?" So because I prefer that the gem itself is the focal point, I don't use prints as facet fabric because they would distract from the overall impact of the gem. If you want to use a print or pattern, I'd suggest using the SAME type of print or pattern in all the facets. For example, I've translated all my patterns into Hoffman's 1895 Bali Batiks (http://www.mjkinman.com/birthstones/r...). Another example, if you like th Grunge fabric, I'd cut the entire quilt out of Grunge fabric in different values and hues.
