Fabric just does not stabilize well. Fabric is woven, non-woven works better. If you use fabric, when the machine moves around and stitches on the "bias", you may get stretching which will distort your quilt.
Have you ever used thin cotton fabric as a stabilizer for a machine embroidered quilt? Is there a problem if fabric is used as a stabilizer?
