Of course! Sergers that can do decorative stitches may have many, many spools (One of my "5 thread" sergers can use up to 10 threads for decorative stitches but I have never bothered to use it that way!). Any serger with two needles and two loopers can create the recommended stitch for the project. Even a 3 thread serger (1 needle, two loopers) could be used, although I would recommend an additional row of stitching on a sewing machine for strength.
