It depends on the stitch you are using to hem. If using a rolled hem or wrapped hem you would want to use a longer stitch length than the normal setting. Each serger may use different "numbers" for the stitch length settings so I can't tell you the exact one but try the length for a standard overlock stitch first and adjust from there.
