Excellent question. The pattern is printed onto the Sulky Stick 'n Stitch stabilizer (included in the kit) via either a copy machine or an ink jet printer. Use your lightest (draft) setting. Then the release sheet is peeled off and the pattern is smoothed onto your fabric. You won't need a hoop, unless you just prefer to use one. Once you're done stitching, you just rinse the water soluble stabilizer and pattern away with warm running water. Roll in a towel and lay it flat to dry. This stabilizer has been a huge hit with embroiderers. Finally a way to transfer even intricate designs, and if you don't stay on the line no one will know. It all rinses away.
