For most consumers, buying anything larger than the Sulky 850-yard spool could result in wasteful over-spending because it may take 10 to 20 years to use it all, and lesser quality threads may not remain usable for that long. However, if you do a lot of one-color embroidery or quilting, then a cone might be economical for you. Consider: 22 yards of Sulky 40 weight rayon equals about 4,000 stitches. One 250 yard Sulky spool can create 44,000 stitches, while an 850 yard spool can create 156,000 stitches. Assuming that an average design has 20,000 stitches, with 388 250-yard spools, you could create 854 designs or more than 2 a day every day for a year. With 388 850-yard spools, you could create 3,026 designs or more than 2 a day everyday for almost 4 years!
