Some threads require a little more patience and skill than others - like metallics. With the proper needle and tension adjustments, even metallics work great on long arm machines. The most popular are 30 wt Cottons and Cotton Blendables - color changes range from 2-1/2" to 5" and the changes are random. There are 388 40 wt. Rayon colors. For those who prefer polyester, choose 40 wt Poly Deco. For quilters who prefer lighter weight thread and enjoy micro-stippling, Sulky PolyLite (60 wt) and Sulky Cotton+Steel (50 wt) are suitable. Sulky Polyester Invisible in smoke or clear is a popular choice of quilters for quiet outline stitching around accent areas, and even for entire quilts, in the needle and bobbin. Bobbins need to be wound slowly with invisible thread because any monofilament thread can stretch when wound too quickly.
