Whenever you want to add wonderful new dimension to computerized embroidery, machine satin stitches and/or free-motion satin stitching. It is being widely seen commercially in headgear and washable wearables. It can also be used with filled embroidery designs, but the loft isn't as great. It provides a very firm finished project, though.
