You only need one stud button so the strap can adjust. If you wanted to test different lengths of the strap you'd normally use with the bag, you may only need one or two holes. Perhaps one hole for wearing the bag without a coat and a hole for wearing the bag with a coat or as a shoulder bag? The holes will be made after the strap is sewn so more could always be added later. I hope that all makes sense and helps! :) Jess
