Traditionally, Baby Lock machines have loved all of our threads, even the 12 wt. You're correct in that you do need to use a light bobbin thread. I'm sure 50 wt. will work for most, but the traditional 60 wt. might work better in your machine. A couple of other tips: You do need a 100/16 needle for this thread. If you have a topstitch 100/16 that might work better since it has a longer eye. You might try lowering your top tension a bit, too.
If you're trying to stitch an embroidery design that is NOT digitized for 12 wt., it's very unlikely anything will help. Most embroidery designs are digitized for the very lightweight 40 wt. Trying to force a 12 wt. into a 40 wt. space, will not work. (Maybe an outline design, might work, if enlarged slightly.)
When all else fails with specialty threads, I've found that Sewer's Aid on the needle and even a bead down the spool can help. If these tips don't do the trick, contact me at info@sulky.com.
