Normally, no for hand stitching. You might want to up-size your needle a bit, and/or use a product called Sewer's Aid (available at www.sulky.com) which is a needle and thread lubricant. It is non-staining.

If you purchased your product on Amazon, please test it before using to be sure it rinses away easily and properly. We have had reports of some counterfeit Sulky Stick 'n Stitch product on Amazon.
