can I use monofilament in the bobbin with 50 weight cotton thread?
I am free motion stitching an art quilt. The main element is fused onto a lightweight stabilizer. I am going to add decorative stitching to the main element with 50 wt cotton before sewing it onto the background. There are multiple colors involved, so I want to use monofilament in the bobbin to avoid winding bobbins in every color.

You CAN use Sulky Polyester Invisible Thread in the bobbin...HOWEVER...you do need to wind your bobbin on the slowest speed possible. It is a monofilament thread, and any monofilament thread can stretch when wound too fast. That could affect your tension results. It can also become so tight on your bobbin that it becomes hard to remove from the winder. This will not happen when you wind it slowly. Also, it's wise to only wind it about 1/2 full or so. You will still have a ton of thread on your bobbin - way more than you would with any other thread. No other adjustment is needed.
