Are you stitching over batting or just piecing at this point? We have a wonderful stabilizer that is used for Tee Shirt Quilts, called Sulky Tender Touch. It's an iron-on and won't change the hand of the fabric. Using that and then stitching over the batting should be the trick. If you're quilting on the photo before putting the quilt together, it will help as well, but without the batting, you might need to add a tear-away like Tear-Easy behind the Tender Touch, just to be certain. It depends on the tension on your machine, and the type of stitching you're trying to do.
