I asked Ellen and she said:
First, make sure the zipper is cut to the exact length on the pattern (if it is even a fraction of an inch too long it will interfere with the triangle stitching).
Then, make sure to only insert the zipper end into the triangle area the amount indicated by the pattern. If it is inserted too much, it will interfere with the stitching.
I found that double-sided basting tape REALLY helped for the straps and ends. It helps you flatten them much better than just clamping them with Wonder Clips. They need to be as flat as possible to get through the presser foot.
Also, check the presser foot pressure. Might need to lessen it to accommodate the thickness of the faux leather pieces.
