It would be unusual to want a permanent marker for your projects. The risk of using these pens that way is that they are "transfer ink" pens. So the ink used can and will transfer each time you touch an iron to it (for a long time). The ink can also transfer to the iron (which won't happen when they're used properly because the ink is face-down away from the iron). It's easy to forget that it's an actual transfer mark. You could then accidentally transfer this mark to your fabric. And it is permanent!
If you want to use these pens to created an outline of a pattern, you could do that, but you need to mark which side is the ink-side so you don't accidentally transfer it to the iron or ironing board.
