It can...IF the design is digitized for the heavy 12 wt. thread. We have a number of designs on our site, and there are others out there as well. Very often these designs use both the 12 wt. thread and the 40 wt. rayon or poly thread within the design, so watch your color changes carefully and be sure which thread goes where. If you mix them up it can be a problem. You do need to use a 16/100 needle, a 16/100 topstitch needle is best; and I have occasionally heard from consumers that their machine prefers the 18/110 (rare, but possible). If there is any shredding at the needle with any thread that's a clue. Also, you do need to switch the needle back and forth if changing weights of thread in the design.
