Honestly, it doesn't really matter. 3/4" or 5/8" is fine. Even 1" would be ok. It's used to close the journal cover so wraps around to the back. And the tacking stitch for it can accommodate several sizes.
What size fold over elastic is needed for the cloth journal covers?
