I would use something like Sulky Cut-Away Plus, since these will likely be pretty large monograms. You might need a lightweight Solvy topper if the weave of the fabric is sort of open, or has any kind of a nap. It doesn't sound like it would.
Or you could use a couple of layers of Sulky Soft 'n Sheer (cut-away) Stabilizer if you have that on hand.
Should you see any sign of puckering (depending on how wide a satin stitch might be), you can also slide a piece of a lightweight tear-away under the hoop (like Sulky Tear-Easy). You can use that technique anytime with any embroidery on virtually anything.
I would also recommend that you use a 40 wt. Polyester thread since this item will be outdoors, rather than a rayon.
