Yes it can be used on thin towels. I generally use 2 layers hooped with the towel, but you could also just hoop the Tear-Easy and spray it with KK 2000 Temporary Spray Adhesive and pat the towel in place. Or you could just baste it on the stabilizer without the KK if you don't want to hoop the towel. You will see this stabilizer on the back of a LOT of purchased embroidered towels. You'll want to tear away each layer separately to be gentle with your design.
You can also use another layer if needed if the design were quite dense and large. You can slide this extra layer under the hoop (floating it) without hooping. I do this whenever I see any sign of puckering or drawing up.
Also, it's very important to us a lightweight Sulky Solvy topper on any napped or ribbed type of towel. It keeps the design from becoming embedded into the nap. (And it will be particularly helpful on a thin towel, even if it's not napped.)
