That's a really good question. We have 4 different types of metallic threads:
Poly Sparkle
Original Metallic
Holoshimmer
Sliver
Poly Sparkle is our newest and we think the easiest metallic thread to use ever! You only need to have 90/14 needle in your machine, and you won't need any other adjustments. Poly Sparkle is a polyester thread that is wrapped with a strand of metallic, making it subtle but beautiful thread, and stronger than other metallics.
All metallics are considered to be 30 wt., so you do need a 90/14 needle with any of them. But for the flat metallic threads, like Holoshimmer and Sliver, you will need to lower your top tension; and may need to do that slightly with our Original Metallic threads.
I think you will love Poly Sparkle. The colors are breathtaking, and the pictures on the website do not do them justice. I've attached a couple of photos I took of the color chart that give you a better idea. The color numbers are the same on our site if you drop the first digit. For instance: 965 (the prefix for all Poly Sparkle thread) and 4 digits: 965-0000 Dove Grey with Silver Sparkle. The link above will take you directly to the Poly Sparkle colors as well as collections of Poly Sparkle. It's fantastic!
