The kit is only $20 more and it INCLUDES: 1/2 yard of cork (high quality for machine embroidery); 10 spools of Sulky Thread; Needles; and the elastic cord. (1 spool of thread is $4.79 x 10 = 47.90). So the kit is an incredible value.
