"To the best of our knowledge the thread is still useable after 30 years or more. If it is sitting on the shelf, reasonably protected in a box, nothing will destroy the fibre or influence the runnability. If the thread is exposed to sunlight, drastic temperature changes or humidity changes it will have a negative effect - how much is a question of the exact
circumstances. I don't know a single case where a customer had to inform us that he had to throw thread away because of age."
Personally, I have had Sulky rayon threads for over 35 years and have not had any problems with even the oldest spools.
You can expect rayon to break rather easily in your hands. It is a decorative thread, and not intended for construction. But it is plenty strong for even high-speed commercial embroidery machines.
