The directions are listed in order on the color sequence sheet provided with your design. However, if this is the first time you've done any computerized appliqué embroidery, you might want a little more info than space allows in the color chart.
Your design may do some stitches before the applique process begins. But when it does begin the applique process it will be like this:
1. The machine will stitch a straight-line outline of the design and stop. Choose a piece of fabric for that part of the design (cut it at least 1/2" larger all around than needed to cover the design). HINT: Spray the wrong side of the fabric with Sulky KK 2000™ Temporary Spray Adhesive, and smooth it onto the outlined area. (The KK 2000 is optional, but so helpful.)
2. Stitch the next number in the color sequence, which tacks down the fabric with a straight stitch. Remove the hoop BUT DO NOT UNHOOP THE PROJECT. On a flat surface, with an appliqué scissors, trim away the excess fabric around the just-stitched section. It's important to get as close to the stitching as possible without cutting into your stitched threads. Reattach the hoop on the machine.
3. Stitch the next color, which will do a satin or finish stitch around this part of the appliqué fabric.
Repeat this for any additional layers of the appliqué as you come to them. There may be some designs that have several different layers or sections of appliques, but they will all be treated in this same basic manner.
Most appliqué designs use this method of appliqué. Others provide templates you can print out, but I find the majority use this method since it is more foolproof.
