Filaine is an acrylic thread that produces a stitch that mimics vintage handwork, with a nubby textured feel and appearance. The 12 wt. 100% acrylic thread is available in a wide range of colors, with a high tear and rub resistance. Use it for woolens or knits, denim, canvas, or cotton fabrics, to showcase vintage style embroideries by hand or machine, brushed embroidery designs to mimic real fur, pronounced topstitching, and big-stitch quilting. Oeko-Tex certified. Easier, faster, and more fun than floss, one strand of 12 Wt. Filaine Petites equals two strands of the typical embroidery floss!
Filaine also comes in 435 maxi-spools, but that would be for big projects. For hand work choose a needle with a large eye that will accommodate medium-weight thread. With sewing needles, the higher the number, the shorter and finer it is. When not using the 12 wt. threads mentioned above, you may want to choose a size 7 or 8, as the shaft will be longer and easier to work through several layers of your project, and some people like using a Chenille #24 as well. It mimics the look of wool thread.
