I apologize, I missed this question earlier. Yes, 30 wt. is the "assigned weight" for metallic threads in general. It has more to do with the needle size then actual weight. So a 30 wt. metallic thread requires a 90/14 Topstitch needle. And designs that are digitized for 30 wt. thread would be appropriate for metallic threads...meaning the digitizer left more room for a heavier thread in each stitch that is digitized.
However, a metallic may not behave the same as a 30 wt. Cotton, for instance. With Holoshimmer, you might need to lower your top tension slightly; position the thread so that it feeds into the machine flat, not twisting, and run your machine slowly.
In the bobbin you would want a lightweight (60 wt.) bobbin thread.
