Wonderful picture - love that design. The issue could be caused by a couple of things. It could be that the sweatshirt shrunk a little when laundered. Or the cotton fabric for the applique could have. It looks to me like it will press out, though. If it was the Tender Touch (which is a polyester fabric), it could be too hot of an iron temperature. Irons vary all over the place in temperature regardless of what you set it on. I tend to use a muslin pressing cloth over the Tender Touch and use a little steam.
You should be able to warm the Tender Touch with an iron and lift it, so you can trim it closer to the design and that might relax everything for you as well.
Another possibility is that the Tender Touch didn't fuse evenly, and lifting it when warming it with the iron and re-pressing it down, would help. I can't be sure without seeing the wrong side. You can send me a photo at patti.lee@sulky.com if you'd like.
