I used too hot an iron to iron on totally stable. Will the paper and glue wash off/out of a cotton tea towel?

Probably. What remains isn't harmful to the project. The real issue comes when a too hot iron is used with a fabric that actually melts (although, this may not be visible). Then the stabilizer and the fabric (like nylon, for instance) becomes one. You could try something like Goo-Gone (available almost everywhere), and see if that loosens the stabilizer some. It will likely come off in small bits with laundering over time.
