There are a couple of options. Oftentimes when we're doing hand embroidery we want no stabilizer to show on the back on something that is reversible, like a baby blanket. We have a water soluble stabilizer called Stick 'n Stitch that comes in 8-1/2" x 11" sheets that can be printed on a copier or from your computer (or traced) with the design of your choice. Once stitching is completed, it rinses away with warm water, and nothing remains of the pattern (so if you don't stay on the pattern line exactly, no one every knows).
Because the fabric is stretchy, Stick 'n Stitch will keep it held in place and will keep it from stretching when you hoop. A hoop is optional with it, too.
If you think your embroidery will lose its shape on this fabric, you could also use a piece of Sulky Soft 'n Sheer on the back, and then trim it away, close to the stitches (with a scissors or pinking shears). That stabilizer will stay in place forever to support the stitches. As the name implies...it is both soft and sheer, so it would be comfortable against the baby's skin. We suggest that you do not purchase the Stick 'n Stitch on Amazon. There a several counterfeit products that look like ours there, and it does not rinse away.
