How do you start the spool? the piece at the rim seems to be coming from under the spool?

There are snap ends on all of our spools. Just gently pry one end up with your thumb, and check for the beginning thread. If it's not there, it's on the other end. Usually with a colored thread you can clearly see which end the thread is located. But with invisible thread it may not be as obvious. When you're done with the spool, you just repeat the opening the snap top or bottom and clamp the thread in there.
