In the Sulky Cotton line:
1035 Dk. Burgundy is the lightest dark red
1169 Bayberry Red would be the middle
and
0035 Merlot is the deepest shade.
I used our real thread cotton color card to determine this and would highly recommend this to you:

It is just enormously helpful to be able to view these colors in the generous wraps that are on this color card. This includes the supplement of the new 70 cotton colors introduced last year. Short of owning every color, this is the next best thing for color comparisons for your projects.
