Is there enough materials to make both design, except for the thread? Do I need to buy 2 kits to make both?

No, there is only enough material and thread to make the mailbox. If she wants to make the truck she would need to purchase another kit plus the add-on threads which is an additional 5 snap spools but you do save 30% off of them if added with the kit.
